Nothing, the tech company founded by Carl Pei, has announced the launch of its latest true wireless earbuds, the Ear 2. These earbuds are a significant upgrade to their predecessor, the Ear 1, featuring a range of new features and improvements.
Design and Features
At first glance, the Ear 2 appears similar to the Ear 1, but it has been completely redesigned inside and out. The case is smaller and uses fewer materials, while the earbuds have been reshaped to accommodate the new features.
The Ear 2 supports LHDC 5.0, a significant upgrade over the Ear 1, which only supported AAC and SBC. LHDC 5.0 offers frequency transmission of up to 24 bit/192kHz at speeds of up to 1Mbps, ensuring Bluetooth sound quality is closer to wired than ever before.
The Ear 2 also features Bluetooth 5.4, up from the original's Bluetooth 5.2, and supports multi-point connections, enabling users to connect to two devices simultaneously. Playback controls have been refined, and instead of tapping on the stems, users can now squeeze them for more accurate control.
The active noise cancellation (ANC) has been upgraded, and the Ear 2 now features Adaptive Mode that adjusts the ANC based on the user's surroundings. Battery life has also been improved, and the Ear 2 can last up to 6.3 hours of playback with ANC off, and up to 36 hours with a fully-charged case.
Availability and Pricing
The Ear 2 is available to purchase now from Nothing's website for $149 in the United States and £129 in the United Kingdom. They are only available in white for now, but a black model may be released in the future. Starting from March 28, the Ear 2 will be available through third-party retail partners.
Conclusion
With its improved features and upgrades, the Ear 2 is a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Ear 1. The LHDC 5.0 support and multi-point connections make it an attractive option for users looking for high-quality wireless earbuds. At a competitive price point, the Ear 2 is certainly worth considering for anyone in the market for a new pair of earbuds.
